Jens Spahn greets the participants of the EYP’s Health Summit!

The German Federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, sent in a video to greet the participants of the EYP’s Health Summit, a series of events dedicated to amplifying the voices of young people in the public health discourse.

Minister Spahn discusses in his address how the Schwarzkopf Foundation’s European Youth Parliament remains a valuable tool for practicing European political understanding. He notes that in these times more than ever, it is of utmost importance to find common approaches to current political issues. “It’s never too early to start learning the other viewpoints of Europeans, understanding them, and including them in your own thinking.” Minister Spahn states that while Europe is a unit, it is also an area that is united in diversity.

This diversity is an aspect of European culture that allows for lasting progress. The European Youth Parliament’s Health Summit Project is a way to strive for united progress, through the combination of diverse ideas. “In these times all over Europe, we must learn to find a common approach to solving political problems despite differing opinions and approaches. Everywhere we are facing major polarization, increasing unforgiveness and overemphasis on group interests and a loss of awareness of what unites us as citizens and as democrats.”

The Health project of the European Youth Parliament is supported by the Wellcome Trust and EIT Health.
