Young Visions on Insurance and Finance

Since 2024, the European Youth Parliament and Insurance Europe have partnered up to create open dialogue among young people and stakeholders in the insurance and pensions sectors. The goal of this project is to better understand young people’s expectations of the industry, and raise awareness of why insurance matters in everyday life. Over the course of the partnership, this has taken shape as youth policy work, discussion events, survey outreach, conference participation, public communications, and direct exchanges between young people and industry actors.

In 2026, our partnership focused more closely on financial and insurance literacy, with a clear aim to give young people space to share their perspectives, improve understanding of how they see insurance and financial education, and bring these voices into wider awareness and industry conversations. Activities in 2026 build on the cooperation developed over the previous year and are designed to make youth perspectives visible in practical, public-facing ways.

Our work in 2026

  • NextGen Video Competition

Together, we organised a youth competition inviting young people to create a short videos presenting what insurance means to them and why it matters. The competition was designed to make insurance more accessible and engaging, and led to creative submissions promoting authentic youth perspectives. Finalist videos featured at the “NextGen Spotlight: Why Insurance Matters” segment at Insurance Europe’s International Conference in Brussels, with a live vote and award ceremony.

  • Ask Me Anything with industry leaders

At the EYP International Session in Pordenone, EYP and Insurance Europe hosted an “Ask Me Anything” session in which young participants were able to share their questions directly to insurance leaders Bart Janknegt and Roxana Baluta. The format was chosen to be empowering and centring young people and the questions they actually have, so it naturally focusses on the topics which young people care about. Questions which came up ranged from personal career journeys, to the meaning of economy and money, and questions of geopolitical stability, ethics of insurance investment, and much more.

  • The address from the youth

Our youth Governing Body member Irem Apaydin, founder of Gendered Economics, spoke at the panel: “Taking stock of the EU Financial Literacy Strategy: One year on – What’s next for financial and insurance education?”, that took place in Brussels

Our work in 2025

  • From conference discussions to youth policy proposals

A major outcome of the partnership was the development of youth-written policy paper on pension, based on the discussions at EYP’s International Sessions in Thessaloniki 2024 and The Hague 2025, and also informed by exchanges during European Retirement Week in Brussels in November 2024. In exchanges with different actors such as Pensions Europe, Insurance Europe, EFAMA, and young people explored how pension systems are under pressure from demographic change, changing work patterns and inequality, and developed practical recommendations to make pensions fairer and more reliable for future generations. The overall process was designed to bridge committee discussions and real-world policy and industry conversations.

  • Bringing youth perspectives into industry spaces

The partnership also brought young people directly into major industry events. In November 2024, a delegation of 10 EYP participants travelled to Brussels for European Retirement Week, where they attended events, met Insurance Europe’s leadership, and exchanged with organisations including Pensions Europe, FTI Consulting and EFAMA. Later, the pension paper and wider youth recommendations were shared at Insurance Europe’s annual conference in Brussels on 5 June 2025, where they were presented to industry professionals, decision-makers and more than 50 interested young Europeans.

  • Young people’s thoughts on insurance

During the Insurance Europe’s annual conference in Brussels on 5 June 2025, more than 50 interested young Europeans gathered to discuss their ideas and knowledge on insurance, in the youth-oriented “InsurVision” conference. They talked about what insurance means to them, why it is so important to educate young people on it, and how the industry can improve to bring the knowledge closer to young people. They had a chance to then share their ideas on the stage, to important industry stakeholders!

  • Youth opinions on insurance survey

Throughout late 2024 and up until mid 2025, Insurance Europe and European Youth Parliament ran an online survey called “What do young people really think about insurance?” The report aimed to ask young people across Europe about their thoughts and experiences with insurance, and surveyed over 650 participants!
