EYP Interrail

Our Interrail project is a travelling civic education programme that brings peer-led, hands-on political learning directly into vocational schools. The format is designed for impact: teams of young volunteers visit several schools in different regions, delivering engaging and interactive workshops designed to make politics accessible and relevant.

Vocational students often have fewer opportunities for civic education. With packed curricula and limited resources, schools struggle to provide the space for democratic learning. EYP Interrail helps bridge this gap by:

  • Bringing political education directly to students
  • Using a peer-to-peer approach that builds trust and engagement
  • Offering a flexible model adaptable to national school systems

The typical EYP workshop format consists of a session with three core components: Teambuilding, Committee Work, and Plenary Session. The first two components simulate the workings of the European Parliament and cover a wide range of topics, including international politics, human rights, climate change, health, energy, and more. Our workshops aim to provide students with fundamental knowledge of the European Unionand make democratic structures tangible.

We’re looking for partners to work together with us and strengthen democratic engagement where it matters the most!

2024 EYP Interrail in Germany

The proof of concept for the EYP Interrail Project comes from Germany, where in April 2024 we kicked off with a training weekend in Kassel for the project team, preparing us to take the EYP concept on the railroad.

From the 8th until the 12th of April 2024, over the course of 5 days, 3 teams from EYP Germany then travelled across the country hosting two- or one-day sessions at 9 different vocational schools.

These sessions, organised by EYP Germany, empowered German youth to participate in the European Elections 2024 and highlighted the significance of elections and democracy, stressing the impact of European policies on young people’s lives.

EYP Interrail was part of #NowEurope of Bertelsmann Stiftung, a project intended to increase the voter turnout in the upcoming European Elections, inspiring young people from mainly non-voter bubbles and empower youth organisations dedicated to this cause.
