EYP Finland Invited to European Parliament

Our National Committee in Finland was recently invited to the European Parliament after winning the second prize of Charlemagne Youth Prize this year. The reward honors projects that foster the development of a shared sense of European identity and integration, provide role models for young people living in Europe and offer practical examples of Europeans living together as one community.

EYP Finland won the prize with its Your Active Citizenship on May 28th 2019. The project helps youth to get to know EU and brings European issues closer to them using inspiring and practical methods. They were represented by the Board Member Yannika Rönnqvist.

Your Active Citizenship has been running since 2010 and has involved thousands of young Europeans. For several years, their initiative has consisted of a national school tour and four Regional Sessions around Finland. Sessions simulating the working of European Parliament develop presentation, debating and language skills of young participants and increase their knowledge of Europe. The projects runs almost completely on a voluntary basis.

Along with Finland, three other EYP National Committees won the national European Charlemagne Youth Prize this year. Congratulations to Slovenia, Czech Republic and Lithuania.
