Young Europeans: Nobel Prize deserved, but we need more democracy
December 10th, 2012
Many young Europeans think that the European Union deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, which it receives in Oslo today. That is the result of the latest European Youth Poll conducted by the European Youth Parliament. While 61% said that the Prize is merited, 60% also stated they would like to see Europe grow into a real federation.

Young Europeans speak out against stricter control of Internet
The recent Europe-wide protests against ACTA hit European politicians by surprise. While they treat the treaty as a technical issue, young people regard it as a vital political issue. The results of the latest European Youth Poll clearly show this divide between the opinions of young people and politicians: Over 70% of the participants voiced their discontent with stricter enforcement of copyright laws on the Internet – thus speaking out against one of the main goals of the ACTA treaty.

Young Europeans say: Durban must be a success
November 2011
Experts hardly expect a good result when world leaders come together for the UN Climate Summit in Durban. However, thousands of young people from all over Europe demand: The conference must lead to a new legally binding agreement. 92% voiced this opinion in the latest European Youth Poll. For most, the reason is clear: 72% believe that climate change will have negative consequences for them personally.

European Youth Poll 2-2011: Thousand of young Europeans call for common solutions on immigration and asylum
4 October 2011
While the Euro absorbs much attention, immigration and asylum policy are still unanswered problems in Europe: Italy, Greece and Malta want other countries to share the burden of refugees arriving across the Mediterranean, politicians from France and Germany rigorously reject this. The German minister of the interior categorically denied any common European effort.
Young people in Europe now speak out against this.

This short presentation shows the project and its most important results:
Roksolana (17), participant from Ukraine
"Despite the fact that Ukraine and the EU are getting closer during the last few years, we still feel a bit isolated from EU countries. That is why we’re voting for the simplification of migration legal background and opening of the borders."

"Once more, the EYP poll shows the youth´s commitment to a stronger European integration and to overcoming national divisions. Free movement within Europe, and the possiblity to live and work wherever one wants to, is one of the biggest achievements of the European integration process. The youth putting such an emphasis on these issues should be a lesson to those who, for example in the light of migration from Middle East countries, think of limiting the freedom of movement and of weakening the Schengen accords. Populist, short-eyed attempts to re-installing national borders, are not in the interest of the people. Instead, we should work on a common approach on immigration and asylum of all EU countries."
Rebecca Harms, Chairwoman of the Greens in the European Parliament

European Youth Poll 1-2011: The European Debt Crisis
Young Europeans say: "More Integration is the Answer to the Crisis"

Céline Vermeire (19), participant from Belgium:
"I hope that European countries will come forward to closer cooperation in the future. I´m convinced that this way we could have curtailed the impact of the current crisis”
"I sincerely welcome the results of this poll. Indeed, it shows that the European youth hopes for more integration and solidarity across Europe, in spite of the European project passing through some turbulent times.
The economic and the debt crisis have forced the EU leaders to face up to their responsibilities. In such political turmoil, the use and abuse of national egos is not the answer. If we want a stronger Europe that will strive to protect EU citizens and that can have a say to the emerging powers during the next decades, the sole solution is more integration. To achieve this goal, an urgent reform of our economic governance is needed. I also observe with great satisfaction that the European youth largely agrees with the idea that financial transfers from stronger economies to weaker economies should be based on structural reforms.
Youth is Europe´s future. That is why I fully support the EYP´s initiative."
Joseph Daul, Chairman of the EPP group in the European Parliament

"The economically strong states in Europe fear the establishment of a transfer union. But that does not have to be a problem: We need the transfer of projects, expertise and technology in Europe to strengthen all the economies."

Comments by European politicians:
"The young Europeans who took part in the EYP´s poll show a keen sense on what the EU needs to face the current euro crisis: not less but more Europe!
If we are to tackle the crisis, we indeed need to find common, European solutions, and closer cooperation in and better coordination of economic issues on the European level.
I´m happy to see so clear a commitment of the youth to the EU, especially in times of growing Euroscepticism and populism with nationalist slogans."
