Brigitte Zypries as new project patron confirmed – 7 March 2017

We are happy to welcome Brigitte Zypries as project patron of “Power Shifts – Reflecting Europe’s Energy”. Her words to the project’s participants:

“Energy policies are generational policies. Our decisions today will impact resource use, climate protection and energy supply for the next generations. These decisions should therefore be made not only for but also with the younger generation. As actors on the future energy markets, we are all called to take responsibility to ensure that energy is clean, secure and affordable in the long term. We have set ourselves ambitious energy and climate targets in the EU. We now need to develop innovative, creative, sustainable and cross-generational approaches. Let us take the ‘Power Shift Project’ literally and engage in both a ‘shift of energy power’ and a ‘shift of generational power’.”

Brigitte Zypries is a German politician from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Since January 2017, she has been serving as Minister for Economics and Energy in the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel. She is the first woman to hold that office in German history. We thank her for her commitment in supporting our work and for taking over the patronship from her predecessor Sigmar Gabriel.
