European Youth Parliament: apply today
by Antonis-Raphael Stylianou (CY)
that is what the European Youth Parliament is all about: getting to know our European neighbours
“European Youth Parliament: apply today!” read a poster in my school – and so I did. My ambitious plans were crushed when the results showed my name on the runner-up list. Thinking that my EYP career was over before it had even begun, I was surprised to receive a phone call from a teacher telling me that someone had dropped out and that I was now part of the team that would represent my school at the 3rd National Session of EYP Cyprus.
During that session, the team of the English School was selected to represent Cyprus at the 68th International Session in Tromso, Norway. After weeks of intense preparation and days of packing, we were ready to go – what could possibly go wrong?!? A volcanic eruption is certainly not the first thing that comes to one’s mind. When that volcano in Iceland erupted, disrupting aeroplanes from flying all over Europe, the EYP did not escape unharmed and the session was postponed till December 2010. But it was worth the wait: that was an awesome session, without doubt.
EYP has certainly given me a plethora of good memories. During its sessions I have laughed, cried, loved, and most importantly made friends that I will always value. Because after all, that is what the European Youth Parliament is all about: getting to know our European neighbours, meeting new people and building up unique relationships.
